Language Barriers
Native Tongue V The English Language
Do we need to start speaking English to our child at home?
Do not worry if English is not the first language spoken at home. You do not need to start speaking English at home to help your child prepare for primary school. Research shows that:
- children learn more effectively by speaking with their parents and family members in their native language
- children with strong first language skills are more ready and able to learn a second language
