Mindfulness and Connecting to your Inner Self during Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a daunting time for expectant mum’s.  Many parents may feel overwhelmed with anxieties about delivery, whether or not their growing baby is developing as they should be and all the practicalities around getting their home and their existing family prepared for their new arrival.  With all this going on in the mind it can be difficult to find time to actually connect with yourself and your baby.  Taking time to slow your mind down can be have a massive positive impact on you and your baby’s mental well being.  All you need is 10 minutes throughout the course of the day to find a quiet space aided by some relaxing music or guided meditation.  You will be amazed at how your growing baby will respond to taking this time and the clarity and focus it will provide for you going forward.  Research also shows that also indicates that mindfulness may help decrease women’s symptoms of prenatal and postpartum depression

Remember mindfulness does not have it be complicated.  It is all about being present and aware of your body and your growing baby within you.

  • Keep it Simple
  • Find a Quiet Space (Your baby’s nursery can be perfect)
  • Pop on some relaxing music and practice your breathing techniques.  As you breath out let go of the any worries or inhibitions you may have
  • Maybe try a guided meditation
  • Use visualization when letting go of your worries
  • Be aware of your baby movements and kicks and how they may respond to the music
  • Enjoy the feeling of bonding with your growing baby
