What is tummy time?

Tummy time means placing your baby on his or her stomach when they are awake

Why is tummy time important?

Tummy time can help your baby’s development.

Tummy time helps with:

  • Hand Eye Coordination
  • Encourages better Vision
  • Development of baby’s senses
  • Muscle strength: neck, back and trunk muscles which babies will need in order to sit, crawl and eventually walk
  • Bonding and Relationship Building.
How to share tummy time with your baby

Tummy time is a perfect time to communicate with your baby.  You can get down on the floor with your baby and engage in eye contact.  You can spend tummy time talking to your baby.  You can use toys and books to get your baby’s attention and focus, and encourage baby to response.

How long should tummy time last?

Tummy time typically lasts between 3-5 minutes and you can gradually increase the number of minutes as your baby gets stronger.
